Cameron,
The lead additive is to provide upper cylinder lubrication that was
required in the Pre-Unleaded fuel engines. It may or may not be
necessary but will not cause any harm or long term effects.

You probably can get by without it and the worst that will happen is a
bit of valve recession. Once you have the head off, you can have
hardened valves and seats installed and not worry about it at all.

Regards,
Joe

Subject: What happens if I don't use a lead additive?

Greetings,

I am the proud new owner of a 71 GT6 MKIII and have a basic question. I
was informed by the previous owner that I should add a lead additive to
the fuel. How importnant is this and what happens if it is not added?
Are there long term effects? Thanks in advance.

Cameron
