TR3A intake manifold "goo"

I have finally started the rebuild of the H6s on my TR3A.  During the 
disassembly I renoticed the "goo" oozing out of the gasket between 
the intake manifold and the cylinder head (see 
http://members.cox.net/60tr3a/Carb-picts/manifold-gooo.JPG).

The "goo" is sticky and can be found on both intakes, but the front 
has significantly less.  I do not see the "goo" on the exhaust 
manifold.

I am assuming that it an overabundance of a gasket sealer, but I am 
looking for a little feedback...
