I have a TR3a, whose engine I have rebuilt with 87.2 mm pistons and liners,
but which is otherwise stock. This has not been installed in the car.
Yesterday I got an engine that looks to be from a TR4, although there are
some odd bits on it that make me wonder if it was from some other car
(separate issue).
Anyway - I have heard that the TR4 manifolds and the HS6 carbs are "better"
and could pretty easily switch these over (I am aware that I would need to
do some bodywork to accommodate this).
So question 1 is: what is the improvement supposed to be? hp, torque? I can
see where gas flow is better but is it worth it?
Also there is the different cam. Since I have upped my displacement from 2
to 2.2 litres without doing any modifications to the head (besides new
stellite-faced valves), compression is now about 10.3.
So question 2 is: should I swap in the TR4 cam, assuming it's in good shape?
Any other differences worth considering?
Thanks,
Jim (digest mode)
