It was my understanding that the bend in the B&B fingers would interfere
with the operation of a larger diameter bearing like the Koyo. Gunst's
bearing is small enough to not cause a problem with the B&B. Gunst told
me that he observed "on occasion" the B&B with bent fingers would
whistle with his bearing. He agreed that it should not whistle and he
had no explanation why it did. Personally, I think he is wrong about the
B&B, but I always thought it prudent to avoid the B&B with bent fingers
only because I didn't think it would be wise to go back to him with a
"whistling bearing" problem after using a clutch he had warned against.

One thing we should keep in mind is that Joachim Gunst is not an
engineer. He runs a British car repair shop in Hamburg. I think we can
assume that there are better engineers on this list. (I'm not one of
them)

There are no patents involved. That is why Joachim Gunst's design was
stolen, and in my opinion that's why he has always been reluctant to
divulge information about the bearing and who manufactured it. It costs
a lot of money to patent something. I don't thing the profits involved
justified it in Joachim's mind. It doesn't in mine. After the design was
stolen, he said several times "I knew the risks".

The most interesting thing to me is that NTN/BPNW or whomever recommends
no preload yet Kai and others have found that the NTN bearing squeals
w/o the preload. That should tell us something.
