The TR-6 spline end has 3 components. A dust cap, and two other pieces.
Inside the
dust cap is a split thin metal washer, as well as a fiber/cork washer or
packing piece. It
is not a gasket, it serves to keep grease within the splines, by being a close
fit to the
sliding shaft. The fiber/cork washer is 1.5 inches on its outside diameter and
1 1/16th
inches in its internal diameter. It is split so that you can remove it from the
thin part
of the shaft, it won't clear the splines nor will the inner metal washer. Both
must be
removed by opening their split areas. Then the dust cap can be slid over the
splines to
remove it. No one sells these pieces. By the waythe fiber/cork washer is
between 1/;4 and
5/16th inches thick. I have a circular cutter to make this washer, but can't
find the
appropriate material. I'm not sure leather is an ideal substitute. One tip, if
you pry out
the fiber/cork gasket, be sure you have a replacement, because it is prone to
crumble, and
probably won't come out intact. Hope this helps everyone
