Why would you choose a larger 80 series tire over a larger 70 series tire?
The 70 series, while not an ultra high performance tire, would certainly
have better handling characteristics than the 80 series. Additionally the
175/70 is probably closer to stock rolling diameter (of the stock 155/80)
than the 165/80.
