They're a happy thing. For your TR4A, call up British Parts
Northwest and get a full set of their poly bushings (used
in place of the rubber units), and a set of their slightly
uprated (used to be "red", but the color has changed - they'll
know what you mean) stock height springs. Get the poly spring
packing seats, too.
The poly bushings will transmit more road harshness to your seat,
but not a lot. The big win is that they don't wear out in two
years, as the rubber pieces will.
If you have more money to spend, get Koni shocks for the front, set
full soft. Increase half turn every 15,000 miles to take up some
wear. Get "heavy duty" rebuilt rear shocks from Apple Hydraulics.
Almost done: get yourself the lower radiator shroud from a TR6 (a
bolt on swap), and a stock TR6 front sway bar. Mount it up with
the stock hardware, but poly bushings. (This shroud also gives
you a place to mount an oil cooler, should you ever want one.)
Now you've got a great-handing TR4A.
