That doesn't sound the same... the parking is set by loosening the 4 
screws on the wheelbox cover and rotating the cup that has that one wire 
(red?) soldered to it.

But if the wipers were okay and suddenly started parking 180 degrees off 
something else may be amiss.  There is a somewhat fragile copper/brass 
arm in there that wipes against a plate to keep the motor running until 
the park position is reached.  It could be bent or broken.  Hard to 
describe but pretty obvious when disassembled.
