Steve, It sounds like the classic "sticky clutch" syndrome. The Buckeye Triumph web site http://www.buckeyetriumphs.org/technical/Clutch/StickyClutch/StickyClutch.htm has the best info/repair articles on this topic as well as other well documented articles.
