Maybe not a direct comparison car for car but has technology made the
specific advances we might *reasonably* expect? Some years ago I did a very
long journey in a brand new Land Rover Discovery TD5 and hated every minute.
It was noisy, uncomfortable and utterly gutless. A few days later, I did an
even longer trip in a 1968 Triumph 2000 with 178,000 on the clock and it
appealed for every reason the Disco didn't. Modern and up-to-date the Disco
may be, but I wouldn't have one as a gift.
