Terry, Not sure what brand you have, but I've always been told that they should be installed so that the text stamped into it is readable right-side-up. I think I got this from Ken Gillanders at British Frame and Engine for the Corgasil (sp?) shim steel head gasket I got from him. I don't know the reason why, I just did as I was instructed.
