I BOUGHT A CHEAP ONE FROM Harbor Freight. Functionally, it works fine,
but the cheapness shows through in the adjustments and how well it stays
up of flips down.

But for occasional use, it is worth what I paid for it.

Subject: Welding TR4A Frame---Advice on Welding Helmets?

Hello list,
I am getting ready to do some minor welding on my TR4A frame, and have
recently purchased a welder. It came with a cheap mask that you hold
against your
face as you weld. I was thinking of purchasing an actual helmet, and was

wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what to look for. I was
thinking of
buying it on eBay (same place I bought the welder), but there are about
5000
welding helmets listed and I'm not even sure what I'm looking for---auto

darkening? Solar powered? Electronic face plate? I was hoping to spend
less than
$60---can a decent helmet be had for this? There are about 500 for sale
on eBay for
between $15 and $40; mostly generic, black helmets, solar powered, with
an
electronic face plate, then there are some like the Jackson helmets,
which are
the exact same idea; except they are name brand and cost $60-$75, used.
Should I
opt for a name brand helmet? Anyone had any experience with the cheaper
(generic), electronic, auto-darkening helmets?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Sean
