Hello list,
I am getting ready to do some minor welding on my TR4A frame, and have
recently purchased a welder. It came with a cheap mask that you hold against
your
face as you weld. I was thinking of purchasing an actual helmet, and was
wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what to look for. I was thinking
of
buying it on eBay (same place I bought the welder), but there are about 5000
welding helmets listed and I'm not even sure what I'm looking for---auto
darkening? Solar powered? Electronic face plate? I was hoping to spend less
than
$60---can a decent helmet be had for this? There are about 500 for sale on eBay
for
between $15 and $40; mostly generic, black helmets, solar powered, with an
electronic face plate, then there are some like the Jackson helmets, which are
the exact same idea; except they are name brand and cost $60-$75, used. Should
I
opt for a name brand helmet? Anyone had any experience with the cheaper
(generic), electronic, auto-darkening helmets?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Sean
