Hi,
Odd problem started today with my 2500S. (Same engine as TR6, twin HS6 SU
carbs). Started to idle much too fast - about 1500 rpm.
So far I've checked that nothing is sticking in the linkages & the
butterflies are closing properly. Replaced a couple of hoses in the PCV
system that were a little loose. Eliminated this wole system by taking the
hoses off the carbs and blocking the ports on the carbs. Checked points &
timing. Checked pistons in the carbs move freely.
I've found that when I first start the engine, it idles correctly for
about 10 seconds. Idle speed then starts to climb over the next 10 seconds
to abour 1500 rpm & stays there. If I pull the choke out about 1/3, idle
stays at 600 rpm. If I then pull it out further, the engine dies. Pushi it
in & the idle speed then climbs after a few seconds.
I'm guessing a leak in the manifold gasket or maybe one of the carb
gaskets. Does that sound likely? Any other suggestions? Any way I can
check those gaskets without pulling everything apart?
