By sheer coincidence (?), 5/16" is exactly what Standard-Triumph recommended
removing from each wheel stud when fitting wire wheel adapters on a car
previously fitted with steel wheels (Service Bulletin T-64-22, July 14, 1964
[among
other similar bulletins]).
