If it looks like the 'soft lead' hammer at www.britishwirewheel.com/hammers
you are good to go!........if not........wait a bit and get the hammer that
will not eventually destroy your new knock-offs..........
I like 'anti-seize' sparingly applied to the grooves on the hub and wheels.
Some like white grease..........they are all messy!......Take the wheels off
every few months if you are driving a lot, ......check, clean if necessary, and
reapply with whatever is your favorite unguent. In my experience, no matter
what you apply............in a year..........the wheel will be hard to get off
the hub............and your wife/husb/sig other........will not be pleased!
Nor will YOU!
Cleaning............That's not a 'can of worms'.........it's a huge
vat!!!............I've really never found anything that is easy.......first
off.......Clean Often........next........use strong detergent........take your
pick.......haven't really found any difference between TSP and Somebody's
'Super
Wash'........use pressure, rags, toothbrushes, a 4" poly paint brush isn't too
bad, a
cone shaped 'wire wheel brush' helps as well..........I have found
nothing.........NOTHING.....that you can spray on.........leave
sit...........spray
off.......that works worth a s---! It must be wiped, brushed, scrubbed,
etc.........
And.......as an aside..............if Anyone! has a better idea.......a
secret process.......a new procedure.........Oh! Please, Please!!!!........let
me
know.......This is the most labour (Br.) intensive job that I know
of..........to get it really clean.........remove wheel........dismount tire
and
tube.........soak in a tub of hot (150 deg) TSP mixture for 12
hours.........rinse
thoroughly, and then apply just a bit of touchup here and there..........and
remount..............it'll be clean......................<g>..............
I've asked some winners at car shows how they keep their wires so
clean..........The response is........"Dismount tires......high pressure
wash....meticulously clean......put on new set of tires.......and the minute
the show is over
replace with my 'drivers' "..........a different set of wheels and
tires........<g>..........wouldn't you know it!!!
Cheers..............and have some good holidays!............
