The easy answer is "yes". What I have been told is if you can spin the nut
known the threads without any resistance, you should be safe. Any binding
means you need to replace that stud.

A quick one, should I as a matter of course buy new cylinder head
studs for the re-build. I was reading an article in Practical
Classics recently on metal fatigue, they mentioned even a burr from a
stud remover can create a weak point. I am particularly concerned
because half the TR studs are so longggggggg. On the other hand the
are quite expensive to buy.
