OK, you don't have to pull the heater core and blower out.
Seriously, I have never tried pulling the wire harness out this way but
since the blower assembly is narrow enough you should be able to reach all
the harness retainer tabs that hold the harness in place and bend them down
enough to withdraw the harness. However, since the harness is 30 years old
the plasticizers in the insulation have long since disipated and the wiring
will be quite stiff and trying to snake it through will be met with
resistance as the wires are forced to conform to the new shape as they pass
through. It may be a two man job - one pulling and one feeding the wires
through folding the various wayward wires to lay in a manner that will pull
through.
The fun part will be pushing it back through on installation.
