Charlie:
Had the exact problem with the transmission on the TR2 when it first went
into service. It is a tooth missing on the first and reverse gear cluster.
Expensive little rascal not just in its cost but since it resides in the
bottom of the gearbox, all of its neighbors must be removed to replace it.
You can just ignore the sound but the extra strain on the next tooth may
cause it to also break off and get jumbled up with the other gears causing
ever more hardship. That gear cluster makes a neat paper weight on my desk
with its missing tooth!
