Well, yes and no. I don't know much about the trannies, but Triumph used
essentially the same Borg-Warner 35 automatic transmission that lots of other
carmakers used: Volvo, American Motors are a couple that come to mind.
Certainly
bellhousings were unique to a given car, and probably the gear ratios were
unique as well, but I'd guess that most of the rest of the B-W tranny was
pretty
much the same regardless of what it was installed in.
This conversion has been done in at least one or two TR6s (California
listers, help me out here: wasn't it Steve Hedke who did such a conversion for
his
dad?), and Standard-Triumph even played around with the idea themselves back
in
the TR3A days, but they decided not to go ahead with production.
