For the TR3 and it's predecessors, the factory recommended grease in a
grease gun. That's what I've always used, and it seems to work well. Check
at your local parts house for a 'mini' grease gun, they're easier to
maneuver under the car (although the cartridges cost more for the same
amount of grease), and get a flexible hose for it. Any modern, quality,
lithium-based grease should do, I've been using the stuff that's fortified
with MoS2 (molybdenum disulphide).

Starting with about the TR4A (in the TR line), the recommendation changed to
90 weight gear oil. I believe all the Spitfires & derivatives (like my
Sports 6) also take gear oil. I've heard you can lube them with an ordinary
pump-type oil can, by removing the plug and pressing the tip of the can
against the hole. However, I'm planning to use zerks and a grease gun from
Mercury Marine. It's designed to take grease from a plastic tube (kind of
like a toothpaste tube), and they sell "copper safe" GL-4 gear oil in the
same sort of tube. Haven't tried it yet, tho.
