Just a guess, but maybe the (other) Steve Smith does not use a stock Triumph
mechanical tach. Another possiblity is that the article was wrong. I am a
long-time subscriber to GRM, but sometimes I swear they don't proofread
anything that goes in their magazines. Case in point, a couple of months
ago, an article in Classic Motorsport (a GRM publication) about a racing MGA
had one sentence about the car's rear disk brakes and another one in the
same article that said it had drum brakes.

Subject: Re: distributors
And yet it was reported, in GRM I think, that Steve
Smith (the other one) uses a Mallory intended for a
Jag in his racing GT6 beacsue it has the necessary
mechanical tach drive. So somebody, somewhere is
misinformed. Is the other Steve Smith out there to
shed some (uni)lite on this? (sorry couldn't resist).
It's a lot of money to find out the drive ratio is
wrong. But its also a lot of money to perhaps
needlessly convert to an electric tach.
Peter, I think it warrants investigation because I
think you may sell more than one or two if GRM is
right. I'll provide the test vehicle if you like ;)
Steve Smith (the slower)
PS Once we get this sorted perhaps we can start
working on AR to start making the Sebring and Libre
wheels in 15x6 again. And Ansa to make exhausts! But
in all seriousness Peter it great to see someone take
such an interest in the hobby as to participate in the
lists, congrats on your commitment.
