Hi List,
I have a question for those of you who have replaced your TR4-6 sills. I
still need to weld in my end caps but before that, I want to paint the
inside of the sills to help keep rust from forming inside them. I have a
quart of Rustolium "Rusty Metal Primer" that I plan on applying to the
inside of the sills before I weld in the end caps. The sills are not rusty
but I have to assume that the "Rusty Metal Primer" is more robust than the
"Clean Metal Primer" and should give me more protection. I am planning on
using a sponge attached to the end of an old broom stick to paint the inside
of the sills, kind of like cleaning a gun barrel.
My question is, how did you guys keep the paint from catching fire during
the welding process? I am planning on letting the paint dry completely so
that most of the fumes will be gone but starting a fire from the welding has
me concerned. I can either braze them or MIG weld them but I am leaning
towards brazing so I get a more complete sealing of the joint.
Let me know what you guys did..
Thanks,
