Tom...
I don't know what your original inquiry was but I can tell you a little about
plastic or 'media' blasting.
Plastic media and/or soda media will remove paint and primer but will not
remove rust. It also will not penetrate undercoating. The undercoating is too
'rubbery' and repels the media including aluminum oxide at high pressures. It
must be removed before blasting anything it is on.
Aluminum oxide will remove rust but must be used carefully around sheet metal
because sheet metal is thin and can be warped or seriously thinned by alum
oxide. Another media that can be used for paint removal is, believe it or not,
ground up walnut shells. Glass bead media works extremely well on aluminum like
the cast aluminum manifolds, carb bodies, etc. Leaves a spectacular finish.
If you are blasting in open space be aware the media and media dust will go
everywhere! ALWAYS wear eye and lung protection. Preferably a respirator for
the dust...it's optimum protection. Respirators are cheap compared to impaired
breathing!
Hope this is of some use....
