John, I think you got some bad advice with regard to sanding the mating
surfaces. Yes it will bring the scroll closer to the crank but only at the
top and bottom of the seal and certainly not the whole diameter. So what you
have is a seal with varying dimensions from the crank. Check it with a
feeler gauge and you'll see what I mean.
Again the comment about slight contact is contrary to how the seal is
designed to work. There must be a gap between the crank and the seal for
proper function.
Stick to the Manual and you'll have the best advise.
Good to hear that you are on the mend with you injury. Drive your TR that's
the best therapy I've ever found.
