was
missing from car when i got it. i was surprised to see it is the same type
as
the hood. the only thing i do not know is, how does it attach to the car ?
can anyone tell me where it goes / how it goes on ? i did not see a mount
point / bracket in the trunk.

Larry, if you have the telescoping mechanism, there should be a tab on the
left side of the trunk opening for the bottom attachment and a
corresponding attachment in the lid for the other end.

However, my 80 TR8 does not have this device. Instead it has a pair of gas
struts mounted down by the hinges. I'm not sure how this application was
introduced but it is possible that that was an across-the-board change that
coverd both TR7's and TR8's. If so then you will not have the tab at the
opening but you will have the now ineffective gas struts down at the
hinges. So have a look and report back. I'm dying to know.
