Working from memory, there is a bellcrank in the center, with the pivot
mounted underneath at the front. The two screws that hold the pivot mount
go in from the top in the area immediately in front of the opening (but
still covered by the door) and thread into the pivot plate itself. With the
door halfway open, one leg of the crank is more-or-less horizontal, points
to the rear, and is linked to the cover. The other leg is at 90 degrees and
points down. It has a fitting that pivots, the fitting has a setscrew. The
link to the knob goes through a hole in the fitting, and is locked in place
by the setscrew. When you push the knob in, it forces the bottom leg
forward which pulls the other leg down and closes the door. When you pull
the knob, the opposite happens. There is an "over center" spring that ISTR
is trapped under the pivot mount (but I could be mistaken on this point),
and the two ends of the spring engage holes in the cover.

Does that answer the question ?
