Front hub grease seal

Hello,

I'm getting ready to re-install my front hubs, using new bearings/races 
and  grease seals.  I seem to recall some mention that the current 
seals (felt in a cup washer) is too thick, and should be trimmed before 
installation.  Anyone have any opinions to offer on this?
