Both my 71 Midget and my 59 Bugeye have the traditional hand brake setup --
push button to release. However, until this TR handbrake thread came up
several years ago, I was convinced the handbrake in my TR3A was broken. When
I first drove it home, I pulled it on the expressway just to see if it was
working. It was. Then, I couldn't get it to release. Spent 20 minutes on
the side of the expressway, dubbing around under the car, seeing if I could
get the mechanism freed before I finally got it off. Never touched it again
until I lost a wheel (and caliper and rotor and brake fluid -- wheel bearing
seized and sheared the front axle) at speed. While I was sliding along on
two wheels and a frame rail with no brakes and more or less not in control of
the car, I decided that this definitely qualified as an emergency, so I
pulled it without much concern that I couldn't get it freed up again. My
buddy released it while we were fixing the car, and I didn't think much about
it -- until that thread came up. Color me embarassed!
