part one-------------
I was trying to dig back through the nass archives
and find the conversation we went through about a month/two
ago concerning the rear cyls (self adjusting) and all the
variation concerning cyl sizes vs. pressures. But I think now
it was on one of the other Triumph yahoo lists.
part two-------------
After calling/contacting about 15 different LBC parts
distributors and local shops here in the states, I had one
of the local shops call me back. They were able to track
down 'one' out on the west coast. All dusty on the back shelf.
Pricey, but even with special shipping and of course the local
shop's markup, it's still cheaper than what Moss lists, which
they do not have in stock either.
And for reference.... since Girling has been bought out (more
than five times in the last eight years), I've (we've... the searchers)
have come to find 4 'specific' stories as to why these rebuild
kits are so hard to find. The 'winning' story seems to be one of
the typical.... as each buy out took place and different employees
left/were replaced... more and more of their (Girling's) hardware
disappeared.
Not only this cyl, but a few other LBC's are having this same problem
AS too, are a few older 'Jap' cars that copied Girlings designs
and apparently using the same rebuild kits, were relying on the
availability of the rebuild kits that are no longer manufactured.
part three-------------
Option #1***
For the future.... should I consider just fitting an earlier 0.7"
tandem
cylinder ( no servo here, and keeping the self adjusting rear
cyls with the larger drums and pads)
Option #2***
fit the 0.7" master, add the servo, keeping the rear self adj, and
large drums and pads
option #3***
Fit the 0.7" master, swap out the rear backplates, fit the smaller
cyls, drums and pads
option #4***
