More from my smart mouth. This time less comedy though. Snow is a
serious problem, and I propose we divert the war effort to finding a solution
to snow.

SUV nothin, Quattro does just fine and without the high MPG. More on the
pro's of Quattro later.
> "Four Wheel Drive only means you get stuck in more remote places."
Truer words have never been said. Among the Audi crowd, this is a common
phrase uttered amongst ourselves. Note: it is not impossible to get high
centered with any car, but it is more likely to get high centered in 4 foot of
powder with a 4WD.

Just so you know, the car was parked and I was already out of it before
the ice coating the ditch cracked and the car sunk in and high centered on the
edge of the road. This is not a mistake of the "en motion" type.

This is also true, but simply because most SUV drivers choose to remain
ignorant to how their vehicles work. 4WD is better then 2WD in low traction
conditions and (gulp) JAG of all companies released a paper that dumbed it
down very nicely for the release of their new X-type. Far be it for me to
EVER promote a Ford or Ford owned product, but it is still LBC if not all that
lil and even less really Brit anymore, but I'm keeping my eye on this one.
They published a winter driving guide explaining power Vs traction and clearly
demonstrating how this pertains to 4WD in "the World of Wheels" I believe I
received in a Canadian racing publication called PRN.
Education is the key and this is something that the individual is
responsible for. The Quattro list is always knowledgeable about the fact that
four wheel drive is four wheel DRIVE, and not any better at stopping then the
average 4 wheeled vehicle. With the Quattro club we have Ice racing and other
adverse driving events to educate our groups. I would have pics of one such
event to show, but it was cancelled this past Sunday. I will endeavor to get
to the event rescheduled for next weekend and post pics of that ASAP.

the only SUV I need:

Note that it's electric too. I just wish it could actually hold more
groceries and last longer then 15 minutes.
can you see my LBC?

A little Audi superiority funny:

Technical stuff: Quattro comes in a number of different arrangements. My
favorite is the first gen with the lockable diff. This may not mean much to
alot of you, but the main difference is that the old cars have a vacuum lock
that you can activate in the control panel. Instead of having an open diff
all the time (reduce traction at the drive end of the vehicle and the tire
with the least resistance spins freely, car doesn't move) you can lock the
diffs front and rear separately. Later Quattros had auto unlock for higher
speeds. Believe me, those diff locks do get used up here. All this without
the MPG of a small Tractor trailer. Most 15 year old trucks don't have this
simple system for their diff locks. 4WD is definitely an asset and makes a
HUGE difference in the conditions the East coast is seeing now, but does not
turn your vehicle into the chariot of the Gods. Understanding is the key.
