  Hi Martin,
   I would suggest using an awl, or better yet, a punch tool to pierce
the material. You won't be able to (and shouldn't try to) push the
fasteners through the material. Our club picked up a commercial type
snap tool for members use, and it's been a huge help with top and cover
projects. The punch tool I happened to have from years ago.
   My apologies to the rest of you for not discussing the SUV topic.

Who's done this?  I have a Moss-supplied cover with "lift the dot"
fasteners and plates, and cap and socket fasteners.  Is it necessary to
pierce the tonneau cover edge with something to install the cap and
sockets?
