Last summer i traded in my Mazda b2300 for a Saturn VUE V-6. On the slab
I get 27 - 30 MPG. To and from work about 22. That is about 2 MPG better
than the underpowered Mazda. The Mazda also had std 5-speed! Not all
SUV's are 15 MPG. This truck (as I call it) has more comfort, seats at
least 5, carries the kayak in the summer, and has awd for days like
today in central NY. If I was driving the Mazda today, I would have had
to take the day off due to the terrible weather. In the VUE, it was slow
but sure. Saturn is developing a gas/electric VUE for 2006 I think. Not
sure what MPG it can expect.
Now on to a LBC topic. My '58 TR3A always gets 30+ MPG on the highway
and about 25 to and from the local car shows. No OD. That technology is
over 50 years old. One would think a 2.2 liter 100+ HP engine today with
all the fuel injection, electronic ignition, double overhead cams, 4 and
5 valves per cyl. etc. would do better than they do. My wife's Saturn
has a 2.2 liter 4 I believe and it does get about 37 on the slab, but if
I really take it easy with the TR I can almost do that. Is it all the
smog junk that is stripping the mileage? Maybe we should re-introduce
the Triumph 4 cyl 2.2 liter. With todays technology could probably get
40+ MPG.
My real concern is an early spring!
