almost always caused by a problem in the slide mechanism. Clean the pins &
the mounting surfaces, if the pins are rusty or bent replace them. Lube
with a quality high temp substance, Sylglyde comes to mind (NFI),that says
it is to be used on brakes. Probably not an issue on old Girling systems
but make sure none of the seals around the sliders are swollen from
exposure to petroleum based lubricants-if they are replace them.Alex

Your text book must be for domestic, single piston calipers. Girling
calipers do not have slide mechanisms. They have a piston on each side of
the rotor and the caliper is ridgidly fixed to the verticle link.
But you are right in that uneven wear is caused by something not moving
away from the rotor when it should. In this case it will be most likely a
stuck piston.
Another possiblity would be a difference in pad material but this should
not be an issue unless someone (DPO?) mixed pads from different sets.
