Yep a number 10 is just fine. Pretty much the standard tint for MIG or stick
welding on mild steel. The higher the number, the darker the tint.
In comparison, when using a cutting torch, or doing oxy-acetylene welding or
brazing, a number 4 or 5 is commonly used. A number 11 or 12 is used when
electric welding stainless steel or "exotic" metals, and also when TIG
welding anything because the arc is brighter, but a number 10 would still be
okay for small jobs.
