You could go now, Fred. You wouldn't be first any longer. All right, just
so you don't feel like the oldest-

I learned to drive on a '51 Austin Devon, 4 door, 4cyl, 4 speeds - all slow.
I also learned how to replace clutches and bearings. It had a sun roof,
which impressed teh State Trooper that gave me mydriver's test, but failed
to keep the rain out. On several occasions I drove to school with an
umbrella open inside the car. The car was 10 years old at the time - you
can do the math. I shared it with my Mother and brother. It was replaced
by a '50 Ford when the crank got beyond twisted. That was replaced by a '55
Ford, for no good reason, really.

The first car that was really all mine, no sharing, was a '57 Mercury
convertible, red, white top, and dual glasspacks. Best highway crusier ever.
Just sat down and motored. Unfortunately, on one 300 mile trip from college
to home it motored through about 13 quarts of oil. My Father traded it on a
new Buick for himself and gave me his '61 Ford Galaxy - 6cyl stick :-(.

Hey, thanks for giving me the excuse to reminisce.

 Bob
