And at least for German cars, the left or right parking lights can be turned
on by themselves. Mercedes from at least 63 by turning the headlight switch
counter clockwise. 70's Porsche by moving the turnsignal switch with the
ignition off.
This split system would save battery power since the side on the road would
be illuminated.
