I don't remember what I came off mine a long time ago so I can't comment on
how to take them off, but I just ordered replacements from TRF and they
came on Saturday. I opened the box and saw these little rectagular shaped
fasteners with a hole in the middle and these two little tabs on each side
of the hole to grip the stud that sticks out from the back of the letters.
I though, "damn, I just saw those at the hardware store". I would have
bought them locally if I had know.
I just installed them tonight and they appear to hold the letters well.
