David ,
Sorry , I should have been clearer ! That should be "hood stick cover".
IMHO the studs only go through the aluminium piece because they do not 
support any weight........it's just to tidy up things .
Bill Piggott writes in his "Original Triumph TR2/3/3A" (page121) that these 
were fitted 
from TS41743 in Jan '59 .
