I think the 'correct' grille would be flat. When I replaced mine (about 20
years
ago) the replacement available was a bit too tall for the opening. Something
had
to give and I made it concave. It is in about 1/8" at the center.
With the last re-spray the nose was stripped to bare metal but there was no
damage to account for the poor fit of the grille. Either the replacement part
was at fault or there was just some variation in the body panel of the cars. I
do not know if the current replacements fit the same way.
A bigger problem (I'm told) is that the air passages in replacement grilles are
smaller than original, allowing less air to the radiator. I've never seen one
that I was sure was original to compare side-by-side -- but then I've never had
overheating with the replacement grille.
