When Michelotti designed the grill and valance of the TR4 he assumed that
Triumph would continue to provide radiators with a hole for the crank to
pass through as they had for the side screen cars. When Triumph built the
radiators without the holes they assumed Michelotti would see his mistake
and redesign the grill and valance.
Piggott says that a few of the very early 4s did have a hole in the radiator
for the crank "feature".
