Bob,
I went thru a similar experience recently when I installed a pair of NEW SU's
on my TR4. I set them up and everything was fine with the choke until I
decided to change the choke cable because the end of the inner cable was
frayed real bad. Now the repro new cable was GIANTLY long and I had to cut
it back. I left a little slack in the outer cable. The new cable absolutely
refused to be pulled out. I broke the inner cable trying to force it to come
out with two hands. Dropping back five to punt, I decided to cut the outer
cable back so there was no slack at all and installed an old OE inner cable.
Bingo! Everything was fine! The choke pulled out normally and the OE inner
cable wire will not fray like the JUNK repro cables. Maybe another lister
can explain why there can be no slack but it sure worked for me.
Hope this Helps,
Darrell
