Bud, Good Evening. You saw through my ruse, and you are correct.
I tried to create a metaphor using computer operating systems and
Triumph operating systems. After years of working with both, I must
confess I am amazed by how little I know about either one, but I knew
enough to understand that computers are just a medium to discuss
things Triumph on a Triumph List. By the reaction (some of it hilariously
personal), it seems I succeeded in getting some folks a little refocused
in the direction which this List is supposed to be about.
Something I try not to forget and often do is that the cars were only
a product. The people who designed, built, sold, repaired and drive
the machines are the real story of Triumph-Standard-BL cars, and it
is that legacy we all quite proudly and consciously display everytime
we get behind the wheel of a Triumph. It really doesn't matter if it is
a TR, Saloon, Herald, Stag or Southern Cross. Frankly, the model
really isn't that important....And as far as what each of think about
each other's cars.....I doubt there are few of us who had a girlfriend or
boyfriend at some time in our life whose looks were either considered
loathsome or stunning by relatives and close friends....same with the
cars. It's just a personal thing.
Lastly, I believe the best damper oil to use in carbs is Johnson & Johnson
Baby Oil. I would like point out that I have no financial interest in the
Johnson & Johnson group of companies, but I wish I did now that I
let out this little secret.
Best Regards,

On the other hand if they'd dared mentioned what kind of damper oil is best
to use in your carbs then we ARE talking some serious stuff that deserves a
nice long thread.
