Hi Phil,

I have had to undo many bolts locked with this type of lockwasher. They are used
everywhere on the CNC punch presses I service. When undoing a fastener, you
really have to use a lot of force to overcome the wedging action of the two 
piece
lock washer.
The wedging is what makes them work. In fact as you undo the bolt, for a moment
it actually gets tighter.
