Just my 2 cents - for what it's worth -
A word of caution when applying race car mods VS a larger engine swap for
increased HP. In a nutshell. . .race cars only typically have to last the
race. Sure you could probably get 170HP or more out of a GT6 engine. Will
it last? Probably not very long. Would it be a decent street driven
engine tractable under a variety of driving conditions, definitely not.
You would probably be lucky to have it idle a 2000RPM and be a dog at
anything under 4000RPM The same is true of the drive line - And it's
generally the large increase in torque that starts ripping things apart -
140 hp with 120 ft/lbs in a Spit or GT6 isn't too bad, and probably shorten
the life of the drive line components over stock. Maybe a 1 or 2 year
rebuild cycle instead of 4 or 5 is acceptable to you. 150 hp with 180
ft/lbs will definitely shorten the life of the stock divine components
considerably They might last a race, but certainly not be suitable for a
regularly street driven vehicle - The drive line has to match so that too
must be upgraded - As you can see, it gets very complicated very quickly.
Production components are selected upon a given load and duty cycle. The
same part with a higher load, will have a shorter duty cycle - you don't
get something for nothing - Given enough load the duty cycle is nil, in
other words the part breaks. Simply because somebody got such and such out
of a race environment, doesn't necessarily mean that it can be applied to a
street machine. . .they are two different animals - driven entirely
different.
