I know that a while back there was some discussion here on oil pressure,
but the archives are still down, so if you'll forgive me I'll ask.

I bought a 73 TR6 a week ago and it's oil pressure runs about 50lbs when
the engine is cold, and after the oil gets up to operating temp it runs
25lbs above 2000RPM and about 10lbs (as it looks on the guage) at idle.
The PO rebuilt the engine about a year ago and says that he did not
check the crank size just installed new "Standard" size main and
connecting rod bearings, new oil pump, rings, and had the head rebuild
and new rocker arms. I did the usual... fresh oil (GTX 20-50 of course)
and new PH3600 spin-on filter, but the pressure remained the same. The
engine sounds OK, altho yesterday when I had it running up on a rack
while fixing exhaust leaks I could hear some light bearing noises (or at
least I assumed thats what it was) when I was right below the sump. I
never listened to a running engine from the bottom side before so am not
sure just what I should hear.

So I guess my question is do all of your TR6 engines run in spec with
the book at 40-60lbs above 2000 RPM, or are there some that run low?

Would I be safer running a fixed weight oil to get the pressure up?

Should I install one of those external oil feeds to the valve cover for
added protection?

Thanks for any suggestions.
