Brian,

A wheel out of balance or bent always seems to show up at about 55 mph.  (That
is probably why the US government set the speed limit at 55 a number of years
back.)  Seems to go away below 50 and above 60.  My guess is that the natural
resonate frequency of the suspension system (spring, mass, etc) is about the
same as the rate of pulses from an out-of-round or out-of-balance tire when the
car is going 55 mph.  The resonance probably amplifies the effect.
