Thought after sitting for 30+ years it might be worth it to go into the
diff and look around, and check the oil. Took off the rear cover and all
looks good (whew!) - no metal filings or chunks to be seen; all teeth
totally intact, etc.
I do have a question: why is there a layer of black sludge on the casing,
when the rest of the oil looks the usual oil colour?
-and is this OK?
-and can I finally use all this 80W90 gear oil I've had around the place
for years?
Thanks,
