Quite the opposite Bill, I was very serious when I wrote that email. I am
not one to concoct outlandish and lengthy emails for sheer laughability. My
email was based on my experiences, and I truly believe little good can come
from trying to recruit or inform the up and coming generations of youth
about these automobiles.
Unfortunately, I can present stories of each of the young fly-by-night
enthusiasts who I have had the displeasure of knowing... I also know of the
whereabouts of their cars and the headaches the new owners are currently
sorting out. A boy named Derek who I knew had an MGB and ran the thing into
the ground, burned valves, cut up the wiring, involved the car in slight
mishaps every so often, etc. He now has a Toyota Celica... which he should
have had in the first place instead of destroying that MGB. Presently know
a young man with a Lotus Europa, who insists on putting the cheapest
possible parts on his car in an effort to conserve funds. WHY BUY A LOTUS
THEN? He fortunately is blessed with quite a bit of intelligence and
ability, so the car will probably live on... but I question the integrity of
the car as whole when you decide to go the cheap route. Knew a kid in HS
also who would borrow his father's MGB, it wasn't a well kept MGB... but he
went the Mustang 5.0 route anyway when he finally bought a car.
If you still aren't sure of my sincerity on the matter Bill, I suggest you
read my replies as I write them.
