Michael :

You obviously know that Tony didn't say that, just a small editting
error.

IMO Your argument is clear and correct.

However, a perhaps simpler one occurred to me while I was reading it :

Stock TR6 brakes should be capable of locking the wheels. Unless you
change the weight (mass) of the vehicle, the brakes will still be able
to lock the wheels. Once you can lock the wheels, there is clearly no
point in having more braking force available.

IMO if you can't "lock 'em up" if you try, then there is something wrong
with your brakes, unless of course you have ABS or something.

As I hope all of you know, maximum braking is acheived with the brakes
applied to just short of locking the wheels (once the tire stops
turning, traction goes down noticeably), but since that point varies
considerably with conditions, the brakes have to able to go beyond that
point, and have a 'smarter' entity, either you or your ABS system,
modulate them.

I'll admit though, that while my forebrain was imagining what I was
going to look like after I T-boned a Volvo station wagon, my hindbrain
had a hard time getting my right foot off the floor. I distinctly
remember thinking "If you don't get your foot up, you're going to die."
Fortunately there wasn't anyone else turning left in front of me, so I
was able to go around him in the lane he should've been in, in spite of
heavy traffic the other direction.
